Dominican Republic Entry Requirements for 2027

Good news: the Dominican Republic is one of the easiest countries for North Americans and Europeans to enter. No visa, no vaccinations required, one free online form. Here is every requirement, step by step, so nobody in your group gets surprised at the airport.

Passport Requirements
- A passport valid for the duration of your stay is the rule for US, Canadian, and UK citizens (six-months-validity is the safe standard some airlines enforce — check yours).
- No blank-page drama — one page is enough.
- A passport card does NOT work for air travel; you need the book.
The e-Ticket (Required, Free)
Every traveler must complete the Dominican Republic's electronic entry/exit form:
- Go to the official government site: eticket.migracion.gob.do (free — avoid lookalike sites charging fees)
- Complete it within 72 hours before your flight
- One form per traveler covers both arrival AND departure
- Screenshot the QR code — you will show it at immigration and again at airline check-in on departure
It takes five minutes. Airport wifi is unreliable; do it at home. For the airport walkthrough: PUJ airport guide.

Visas: Who Needs One
- US, Canada, UK, EU, and most of Latin America: no visa needed for tourist stays up to 30 days (extendable).
- Other nationalities: check with the Dominican consulate — requirements vary.
- The old $10 tourist card is folded into airline tickets; nothing to buy separately.
Customs Rules
- Standard allowances: personal items, 200 cigarettes, 1 liter of liquor duty-free arrivals-side.
- Do not bring fresh fruit, meat, or plants (agricultural rules), and never carry anything for a stranger.
- Drones require prior authorization — declare or leave it home.
- Meds: keep prescriptions in original packaging.
Departure Requirements
- The same e-Ticket QR covers exit — your airline verifies it at check-in.
- Arrive at PUJ 2.5-3 hours early for international departures (3+ on Saturdays).
- US preclearance does NOT exist at PUJ — you clear US customs at home.
FAQ
Do I need a visa for Punta Cana? US, Canadian, UK, and EU passport holders do not need a visa for tourist trips up to 30 days — just a valid passport and the free e-Ticket.
How long does the e-Ticket take? About 5 minutes online, free, within 72 hours of travel. Screenshot the QR code.
Do I need any vaccinations? None are required for entry. Routine vaccines are recommended as for any travel; consult your doctor for anything beyond that.
Can I enter with an expired passport? No — and airlines will not board you. Check expiry dates the day you book, not the week you fly. This is the #1 preventable group-trip disaster.
